SoHa Arts & Culture Guild

The SoHa Arts and Culture Guild (SACG), operating as a Colorado unincorporated nonprofit association, is pleased to announced that we're back! We're currently assembling our Board of Directors and Advisory Board. Currently, the Board of Directors includes Officers Pam O'Mara, Chair and Chris O'Mara, Treasurer; and Members at Large: Carol Denker (co-Chair Events Committee), Loretta Davis, Lori Melena, and Mollie Rue (co-Chair Events Committee). Advisory Board members include Laurie Pierce and Jon Jon Lannen. We're looking for a Secretary and Vice Chair. Committees currently include Membership and Events. Among other exciting projects, we're looking forward to an annual SoHa Fringe Festival; artists' incubator; and "teen to steam" programs aimed at the 15 - 17 age group.

SoHa Arts and Culture Guild to Apply for Arts District Grant

SoHa Arts and Culture Guild is gearing up to apply for an arts district grant and technical support through Colorado Creative Industries. While 2012 is too soon for a thorough application to be submitted, the Guild and its media partner SoHa Happenings in Colorado eZine are working to gather the recognition, support, and documentation required to submit a grant application in 2013.

CONCERNING THE CREATION OF CREATIVE DISTRICTS, AND, IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, AUTHORIZING SPECIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO DESIGNATE A PORTION OF THEIR TERRITORY AS A CREATIVE DISTRICT SUBJECT TO CERTIFICATION BY THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES DIVISION WITHIN THE COLORADO OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado:

SECTION 1. Part 3 of article 48.5 of title 24, Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION to read: 24-48.5-314. Creative districts - creation - certification - powers

of coordinator and division - legislative declaration - definitions.

(1) (a) THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY HEREBY FINDS, DETERMINES, AND

DECLARES THAT: (I) A CREATIVE DISTRICT IS A WELL-RECOGNIZED, DESIGNATED

MIXED-USE AREA OF A COMMUNITY IN WHICH A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF

CULTURAL FACILITIES, CREATIVE BUSINESSES, OR ARTS-RELATED BUSINESSES

SERVE AS THE ANCHOR OF ATTRACTION. IN CERTAIN CASES, MULTIPLE

VACANT PROPERTIES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY MAY EXIST WITHIN A COMMUNITY

THAT WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR REDEVELOPMENT AS A CREATIVE DISTRICT.

CREATIVE DISTRICTS MAY BE FOUND IN ALL SIZES OF COMMUNITIES, FROM

SMALL AND RURAL TO LARGE AND URBAN. CREATIVE DISTRICTS MAY BE

HOME TO BOTH NONPROFIT AND FOR-PROFIT CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND

ORGANIZATIONS.

Visitors to Wild on Littleton Block Party Love the Idea of Arts Guild

Sharing a booth with SoHa Happenings in Colorado eZine at the 7th Annual Wild on Littleton Block Party was a great success for both the Guild and SoHa Happenings. Together we chatted with nearly 500 visitors, who were esctatic about the idea of a non-profit devoted to arts and culture in SoHa Colorado.
